Ideas for BYD Dolphin Upgrades and Fixes

I’ve had my BYD Dolphin for a little while now, and while I really enjoy it, there are a few things I think could be improved to make it even better. I thought I’d share some ideas and start a discussion. Maybe some of these features already exist in other markets, or they could come with future updates.

First, I really wish the Dolphin came with a built-in dashcam as standard. From what I’ve read, some countries already have a BYD-supported dashcam system that integrates with the car’s software, but it’s not available here in Australia. It seems like BYD is almost there with the feature, so why not just include it for everyone? It feels like a no-brainer to me.

Another thing is the voice assistant. Right now, my Dolphin only has an American-accented female voice, which can get a little grating over time. An option to download a French voice, but that’s not very helpful unless you speak French. It would be great if BYD offered more voice options or even allowed some customization, so drivers could pick something that suits their preferences better. I’m curious if other markets have more variety.

The Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) system could use a big improvement. It’s a great concept but poorly executed right now. The loud warnings and constant alerts about speed limits are more distracting than helpful. A visual-only warning would be much better, maybe changing the speedometer color or adding a subtle on-screen indicator. That way, the feature would still be useful without being so disruptive.

These are just a few things I’ve been thinking about, and I’m sure other Dolphin owners have ideas too. What would you like to see improved?

Nothing to complain about. Though, if you want some upgrades (at least for the dashcam), go to BYD auto, Accessories section, and check if you can find something there.

Great ideas! I agree with the dashcam suggestion, having it as standard would be a smart addition. The voice assistant could also use more options, and of course a less intrusive TSR would improve safety.

Totally agree on the dashcam. It seems like an easy upgrade, especially since the tech already exists in some regions. If BYD doesn’t roll out a software update for it soon, you could probably install a third-party dashcam and wire it pretty cleanly. As for the TSR alerts, muting the audio while keeping visual warnings would be a solid improvement.

Totally agree with your points, especially about the dashcam. It's crazy that BYD offers integrated dashcam support in some markets but not others. It feels like a must-have safety feature these days, and integrating it with the car's system just makes sense. The voice assistant thing is also spot on. More voice options are a must, and customization would be even better. And yeah, the TSR... I've had the same experience. The constant beeping is overkill. A visual cue, like you suggested, would be way more effective and less annoying. I'd also love to see improvements to the navigation system, maybe real-time traffic updates that are actually accurate, and a better way to manage charging, especially finding available charging stations on long trips. What about a head-up display?
