How Are You Managing BYD SIM Card and Data

New to the site and super pumped, my BYD car will be arriving soon! I’ve been reading up on the features, but I’m still a bit confused about how the whole SIM card and mobile data thing works. Hoping someone here can help me figure it out.

I hear the car comes with a SIM card for OTA updates, navigation, emergency SOS, and the app. Does it cover stuff like Spotify or other apps that need data? I hear you get 1.5GB of data per month for the first two years. That seems like it could run out fast if more than just car stuff is using it.

Does anyone know what happens after those two years? Do you have to pay for a plan, and if so, what kind of costs are we looking at?

I was thinking about just using my phone as a hotspot for the car, for updates and daily use. If I do that, would things like updates and satnav switch to using my phone’s data instead of the car’s SIM? That sounds like a good way to save the car’s data, but I’m not sure if it works that way.

For anyone already driving a BYD, how’s the SIM data been working out for you? Does 1.5GB last, or do you find yourself needing to connect to Wi-Fi or a hotspot? Just trying to figure out what works best.

While it does have a limited data allowance, it is not ideal for streaming music or videos. The 1.5GB of data per month is usually sufficient for basic car functions, but if you intend to stream a lot of media, you may want to consider a different option.
